The Value of Professional Support

We all have, more or less, a set of conscious maps about our social and family relationships, our school or profession/work, our relationship to food and alcohol, socializing, and how we tackle goals, Sometimes we follow these maps, but sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we ignore these maps all together and try to go the opposite direction. Often, we do a jumbled version of both!

Managing all these maps can be difficult under the best of circumstances. Keeping a clear sense of direction during challenging personal or family circumstances can be down-right impossible. This is where professional support can help.

What does working with me look like? First you will be heard. I listen for underlying patterns, for hidden strengths and undiscovered resources. We start with articulating what you want to change, bringing in your history as it presents itself in your story. In our very first session, I will offer a take-away to help you find your path.

Besides learning new skills, individual work may include grieving, controlling anxiety, navigating dating or friendship challenges, coping with chronic or catastrophic illness, and making career or school decisions.

How many sessions? This decision is yours. I have worked with clients on specific deadlines while others find value in continuing sessions long after their initial concerns have been resolved. Resolution is more about a feeling than a destination. My clients often move on when they experience a newfound openness to family and friends, a significant reduction in anxiety, and an overall sense of well-being and joy.

My home office is in Skokie, Illinois. I frequently work with clients around the country and the world. Technologies like FaceTime, Skype, and Zoom can connect me to clients for whom an office visit is not practical or for whom a large family gathering is helpful. Part of our process is figuring out not just what therapeutic tools, but also what communication tools will be needed to support your journey.
